PM Modi reassures Wayanad victims of government support

After visiting landslide-affected areas in Wayanad, Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reassured survivors of full support from both central and state governments.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured full support to survivors of the recent landslide in Wayanad, Kerala, emphasizing the government’s dedication to managing the crisis and providing relief. In a statement following his visit to the affected areas, Modi expressed deep empathy and a personal connection to the disaster, drawing on his past experience with a similar tragedy.

“I have been constantly in touch with authorities to assess the situation,” Modi said. “This is not a normal disaster, and helping the survivors is our topmost priority.” He detailed his visit to relief camps, where he met survivors and listened to their accounts of the incident. Modi also mentioned that he had dispatched a central team of ministers to the region, who met with Kerala’s Chief Minister. The CM is expected to send a detailed memorandum regarding the incident.

Modi reflected on his own experience with a major disaster from his past, recalling the Morbi dam collapse in Gujarat 45-47 years ago. “During that tragedy, heavy rains destroyed the dam, leading to catastrophic flooding in Morbi city. I stayed there for about six months as a volunteer, witnessing firsthand the scale of the disaster,” he noted. He assured that the central and state governments would leave no stone unturned in their efforts to support the survivors and address the current situation.

The Prime Minister’s visit and statements underscore the government’s commitment to providing immediate assistance and long-term support to those affected by the landslide.
