INS Tabar arrives in London for four-day visit, strengthening India-UK naval ties

The Indian Navy’s stealth frigate, INS Tabar, arrived at London Harbour on August 7, 2024, for a four-day visit. The visit underscores the enduring partnership between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy.

The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar, docked at London Harbour today for a four-day visit aimed at bolstering naval ties between India and the United Kingdom. This visit reflects the long-standing partnership between the two navies, marked by regular exchanges and joint exercises, including the annual Konkan naval exercise.

INS Tabar, commanded by Captain MR Harish and carrying approximately 280 personnel, is among the Indian Navy’s earliest stealth frigates. Built in Russia, the ship is part of the Western Fleet based in Mumbai. During its stay in London, INS Tabar will engage in a series of professional interactions with the Royal Navy. These interactions are designed to enhance bilateral relations and highlight shared maritime interests.

The ship’s crew will also participate in community service activities at the Royal Chelsea Hospital, where they will assist retired Royal Army pensioners. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, promoting global unity and compassion. Additionally, the visit provides an opportunity to showcase Indian culture to the local community.

INS Tabar’s arrival was met with a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora at the iconic Tower Bridge. The visit is expected to further strengthen the maritime partnership between India and the UK, reinforcing the strategic and cultural bonds between the two nations.

The four-day engagement will include sporting events and collaborative exercises with the Royal Navy, reflecting the deep-rooted naval cooperation and mutual respect that characterize the Indo-British maritime relationship.
