Indira Gandhi International Airport achieves net zero carbon emission status

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has set a new benchmark in environmental sustainability by becoming the first airport in India to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emission status.

According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), Indira Gandhi International Airport has successfully attained Level 5 certification under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program administered by the Airport Council International (ACI). This prestigious Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport status underscores IGIA’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable aviation practices.

The Level 5 certification, also known as the “Net Zero” level, signifies that IGIA has effectively neutralized its carbon emissions through a combination of innovative measures, including significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and investments in carbon offset projects. This achievement places IGIA at the forefront of global airport sustainability efforts.

The Net Zero certification is a testament to IGIA’s dedication to environmental stewardship and its role as a leader in the aviation industry’s push towards more sustainable practices. The airport’s accomplishment reflects broader efforts within the industry to address climate change and mitigate environmental impact.

The ACA program, established by ACI, provides a comprehensive framework for airports to measure, manage, and reduce their carbon emissions. IGIA’s achievement represents a significant milestone in India’s commitment to environmental sustainability and sets a high standard for other airports in the region.
