The Indian Navy’s submarine, INS Shalki, has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for a scheduled two-day visit from August 2 to August 4. The visit highlights the growing naval cooperation between India and Sri Lanka and features a series of high-profile interactions with Sri Lankan naval officials.
Upon arrival, INS Shalki was accorded a ceremonial reception by the Sri Lanka Navy, marking the beginning of its stay in Colombo. The formal welcome underscores the importance of this visit in enhancing bilateral defense relations.
During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Shalki is set to meet with Rear Admiral WDCU Kumarasinghe, Commander of the Western Naval Area of the Sri Lankan Navy. This meeting discusses maritime security and collaborative opportunities between the two nations’ naval forces.
Additionally, a visit and briefing will be conducted for Sri Lankan Navy personnel onboard INS Shalki, offering a unique opportunity for professional exchanges and shared learning. Personnel from the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka and members of the Sri Lankan Defense Forces are also scheduled to tour the submarine.
This port call underscores the commitment of both India and Sri Lanka to strengthening their defense ties and enhancing maritime security in the region.
