The High Commission of India in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, in collaboration with Sri Lankan government authorities, have secured the release of 20 Indian fishermen. The fishermen, who had been detained by Sri Lankan authorities, were met today by Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Satyanjal Pandey and other officials.
The meeting took place at the detention facility, where Dr. Pandey and his team ensured that the fishermen were in good health and well-being. The officials provided reassurances regarding the expedited process of their repatriation, which is expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.
The swift resolution of the issue highlights the strong diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, as well as the effective cooperation between the two nations’ authorities. This development comes as a relief to the fishermen and their families, who had been anxiously awaiting their return. The release underscores the ongoing commitment of both the Indian and Sri Lankan governments to address maritime issues and protect the interests of their citizens.
