The state of Himachal Pradesh is grappling with the aftermath of severe weather conditions, with reports of missing persons and significant damage to infrastructure. Himachal Pradesh Minister Jagat Singh Negi provided a grim update, highlighting the dire situation across several districts.
“So far, 36 people have been reported missing in the Samej area of Shimla district. Similarly, 8 people are missing in the Tikken area of Mandi. Two bodies have been recovered, and one person is injured,” stated Minister Negi, detailing the ongoing crisis.
The Kullu district has also been severely impacted, with the breach of the barrage at the power project in Malana leading to additional distress. The breach has left several people stranded, and road connectivity in the area is currently disrupted. The disruption of key infrastructure has hampered rescue and relief operations, adding to the urgency of the situation.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has called an emergency meeting to address the crisis. The meeting aims to coordinate the state’s response, mobilize resources, and expedite relief efforts to the affected areas. “Many bridges have been damaged, further complicating the situation. Our priority is to ensure the safety of those stranded and to restore connectivity as soon as possible,” emphasized Chief Minister Sukhu.
Rescue teams, including personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are working tirelessly to locate the missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected. The state government is also coordinating with various agencies to ensure a swift response to the disaster.
The severe weather has wreaked havoc across Himachal Pradesh, disrupting lives and livelihoods. The immediate focus remains on rescue operations and providing relief to the affected population. The state administration is urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety advisories as the situation continues to evolve.
