The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a detailed inquiry into an alleged attack by YSRCP MLA Annabathuni Sivakumar on a voter at Polling Station 115 in Ithanagar, Tenali Assembly Constituency, Guntur district. The incident occurred on Monday morning, prompting swift action from electoral authorities to ensure accountability.
A viral video captured an altercation where YSRCP MLA Annabathuni Sivakumar purportedly slapped a voter, who then retaliated. After this exchange, the YSRCP cadre allegedly assaulted the voter. Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena acknowledged the incident, stating that the Election Commission has initiated a detailed probe. He mentioned the availability of live webcasting footage from the Polling Station and directed the Guntur Superintendent of Police to file a case against the perpetrators, including the MLA
Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena disclosed that the state has witnessed approximately 10 violent episodes thus far, with law enforcement responding promptly. Meena assured the public of a peaceful and equitable voting process, emphasizing the Election Commission’s commitment to upholding fairness for all candidates and leaders. He encouraged widespread voter participation, underscoring the importance of citizens’ engagement in the democratic process. Meena expressed optimism, projecting a voter turnout exceeding 80%.
