A senior Congress leader has backed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s recent statement calling for 140 crore Indians to unite against an alleged “dictatorship”.
Nayak alleged that Indian citizens are unhappy with the centralization of administrative and political powers in the hands of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He stated that what Kejriwal said about opposing dictatorship is correct, endorsing the AAP chief’s controversial comments made earlier this week.
Kejriwal had warned that several prominent opposition leaders could be jailed if the BJP wins the upcoming national elections. He urged people to unite to “save democracy”.

The Congress leader accused the Modi government of consolidating power at the Center in an undemocratic manner. He claimed that the centralization of all authority in the hands of the PM and Home Minister goes against the principles of democracy and federalism that India was founded upon.
The Congress party has repeatedly accused the BJP of misusing central investigative agencies to unfairly target opposition leaders over the years. However, the BJP has dismissed these claims as baseless and desperate attempts to tarnish the government’s image ahead of elections.
Political analysts suggest the rising rhetoric and personal attacks from both sides could make this one of the most bitterly contested general elections in recent times. They say it remains to be seen how this war of words impacts voter sentiments across the country.
