The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of cheating and forgery involving Aadhaar cards, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). The case, which names three accused individuals from Rajasthan and includes unknown accomplices, revolves around allegations of unauthorized and fraudulent creation of Aadhaar cards.
According to the CBI, the accused, who operated e-Mitra centers in Rajasthan, were allegedly involved in creating Aadhaar cards in an illegal manner. It is claimed that these services were provided for a fee of Rs 25,000, bypassing the authorized procedures and safeguards established for Aadhaar registration.
The complaint led by MeitY highlighted that the e-Mitra centers, typically intended to offer various public services, were misused to forge Aadhaar documents. This has raised significant concerns about the integrity of the Aadhaar system and the potential for misuse of identity verification processes.
The CBI’s investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the fraud, identify all individuals involved, and take necessary legal actions. This case underscores the ongoing scrutiny of Aadhaar registration practices and the importance of upholding stringent standards to prevent fraudulent activities.
The investigation reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the Aadhaar system and ensuring that such breaches are addressed promptly. As the CBI delves deeper into the case, further revelations and actions are anticipated to ensure accountability and reinforce the security of identity verification processes in India.
