Assam’s Lachit Borphukan to feature in new Prasar Bharati documentary

At a MoU signing ceremony with Prasar Bharati, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of historical accuracy in the upcoming documentary on Lachit Borphukan.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with Prasar Bharati for the production of a documentary on Lachit Borphukan. The ceremony took place at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, marking a notable collaboration aimed at highlighting the legacy of the revered Assamese military leader.

During the event, CM Sarma stressed the importance of maintaining historical accuracy in the documentary. He urged the production team to ensure that the depiction of Lachit Borphukan, including his dress, costume, and background music, reflects the true essence of Assam’s history and the people’s reverence for him.

“I request that when the dress, costume or the background music are decided, the history of Assam and the faith people have in Lachit are not compromised,” said Sarma. “We should make sure that the documentary is historically correct… But I am sure that Prasar Bharati will produce it properly.”

Lachit Borphukan, a celebrated figure in Assamese history, is known for his leadership during the Battle of Saraighat, where he played a crucial role in defending Assam against the Mughal invasion in the 17th century. The documentary is expected to be a tribute to his bravery and contributions, capturing his legacy with the respect and accuracy it deserves.

This collaboration between the Assam government and Prasar Bharati underscores the commitment to preserving and promoting Assam’s rich cultural heritage. The documentary aims to educate and inspire future generations by presenting a historically accurate portrayal of Lachit Borphukan’s enduring impact.
