Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has denied allegations that Tehran has transferred weapons to Russia during his time in office. In a statement, Raisi rejected claims that Iran has provided military support to Russia amid its ongoing war with Ukraine, reiterating that no arms shipments have occurred since he assumed the presidency in August 2021.
Speaking to reporters, Raisi emphasized Iran’s neutral stance in the Ukraine conflict, asserting that Tehran has not sent any military equipment, including drones, to Russia. He insisted that Iran’s foreign policy is based on maintaining peace and stability, and he expressed support for diplomatic solutions to the crisis.
Raisi’s comments come amid growing concerns from Western nations that Iran has been supplying weapons, particularly drones, to Russia. Ukrainian officials and Western intelligence agencies have accused Iran of providing Moscow with Shahed-136 drones, which Russia has allegedly used in attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. These drones have been linked to a series of strikes on civilian targets in Ukraine, prompting condemnation from the international community.
The U.S. and European Union have imposed sanctions on Iran in response to these allegations, accusing Tehran of violating international arms agreements. The Iranian government, however, has repeatedly denied involvement, maintaining that its military technology is not intended for use in the Ukraine conflict.
Despite Raisi’s denial, tensions between Iran and Western nations continue to rise. Washington and its allies have argued that Iran’s military cooperation with Russia poses a broader threat to regional stability, particularly in the Middle East, where both countries have formed strategic partnerships.
