Emirates Airlines has temporarily suspended all flights to Iraq, Iran, and Jordan from 3rd to 5th October 2024, citing regional unrest following escalating tensions in the Middle East. This disruption affects passengers traveling to and from key cities such as Baghdad, Basra, Tehran, and Amman.
The decision to cancel flights comes after a missile strike by Iran on Israel, which has raised concerns of a wider conflict in the region. The airline, based in Dubai, announced that its priority is the safety of passengers and crew, stating, “Due to the current regional unrest, we have had to suspend all flights to these destinations for a three-day period.” The suspension applies to both outbound and inbound flights to these cities.
In its advisory, Emirates urged passengers with bookings to these destinations to review their travel plans and stay updated on the evolving situation. Travellers have been advised to contact their travel agents or the airline directly for alternative arrangements or refunds. The airline also suggested that passengers verify their contact information via the airline’s booking portal to receive timely updates.
This disruption is part of broader regional consequences following Iran’s missile strike on Israel, which has led to heightened security concerns. Emirates’ decision reflects the growing caution in the aviation industry regarding flights into conflict-prone areas, as tensions rise between Israel and Iran, with fears that the situation could escalate further.
Other airlines are expected to follow suit with similar cancellations, given the volatile situation in the Middle East. Passengers flying with other carriers, especially those with connections through Dubai, have been encouraged to check with their airlines about potential disruptions to their travel plans.
