EU and Saudi Foreign ministers discuss efforts to end Gaza conflict

The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, engaged in a significant discussion today with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, focusing on the ongoing Gaza conflict and broader regional tensions.

Josep Borrell, the European Union’s top diplomat, held a high-level discussion with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, focusing on strategies to end the ongoing Gaza war. The conversation, which Borrell shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), centred on finding sustainable solutions to the conflict and addressing the broader regional tensions.

Borrell emphasized the need for international cooperation, particularly with Arab partners, to de-escalate the situation. Borrell stated in his post that they will continue to work towards de-escalation, whether in the Levant or the Red Sea, in close cooperation with Arab partners and all those interested in peace.

The conversation comes as the Gaza war continues to rage, with thousands of casualties and widespread destruction affecting both Palestinian and Israeli communities. Efforts to mediate peace have been complicated by the involvement of various regional actors, including Hezbollah in Lebanon and broader concerns over Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia, a key player in the Arab world, has been active in diplomatic efforts to reduce hostilities, particularly given its vested interest in regional stability. Riyadh’s growing engagement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict comes amid broader efforts to reshape its foreign policy and balance its relationships with Western powers and regional allies.

Meanwhile, the EU and Saudi Arabia have pledged to remain and seek not only a ceasefire in Gaza but also long-term solutions that can reduce the risk of violence and future in the region.
