In a stern response to the recent escalation of violence in western Iraq, the Iraqi Joint Operations Command based in Baghdad has condemned the rocket strike on an airbase housing forces of the US-led coalition. The attack, which occurred late Monday night, targeted Ain al-Asad airbase, a crucial military installation in the region.
The Iraqi military’s condemnation comes amidst heightened tensions and concerns over security in the area. Such attacks not only pose a threat to the stability of Iraq but also jeopardize the safety of personnel from the coalition forces stationed there. The missile strike, reportedly launched from a distance, underscores ongoing security challenges despite efforts to stabilize the region.
“We strongly denounce any assault on military bases and foreign missions within Iraq,” stated a spokesperson from the Iraqi Joint Operations Command. This unequivocal statement reflects Iraq’s commitment to maintaining peace and security within its borders while ensuring the safety of all international personnel operating under the coalition.
The Ain al-Asad airbase, situated in Anbar province, has been a focal point for coalition operations against extremist groups in Iraq. It has previously been targeted by similar rocket attacks, highlighting persistent security threats despite efforts to fortify defenses. The Iraqi government has pledged to investigate the incident thoroughly and collaborate closely with coalition partners to enhance security measures. Such attacks not only endanger lives but also undermine efforts towards peace and stability in the region.
