The German Foreign Ministry has expressed strong condemnation over the killing of civilians in Gaza, labelling the situation as “unacceptable.” In a series of posts on the social media platform X, the ministry urged for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and called for swift investigations into the repeated attacks on schools by the Israeli army.
“The reports from Gaza are terrible. Civilians seeking shelter getting killed is unacceptable,” the German Foreign Ministry stated, highlighting the dire need for a ceasefire to protect the vulnerable populations caught in the ongoing conflict. The ministry also endorsed a proposed captive exchange deal brokered by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, as part of broader efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region.

Germany’s call to action emphasised the immense suffering experienced by civilians, particularly women, men, and children who have been fleeing the conflict in Gaza for months. “The suffering of women, men and many children seeking protection, who have been fleeing the fights in Gaza for months, is immeasurable. They must not get in the crossfire any longer,” the ministry stated.
In addition, the German government pointed to the need for accountability regarding the attacks on civilian infrastructure, specifically schools, which have been repeatedly targeted. The Foreign Ministry insisted that these attacks “must stop and be investigated quickly,” stressing the importance of protecting spaces intended to offer refuge.
Germany also called on Hamas to cease its use of civilians as protective shields, a tactic that has been widely condemned in international discourse. However, it is important to note that there is currently no concrete evidence to support claims that Hamas fighters have used civilians as human shields in the ongoing conflict.
The German Foreign Ministry’s remarks reflect growing international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where the civilian toll continues to rise amidst ongoing hostilities.
