Yunlin OWF foundation installation complete, project moves into final phase

Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. has successfully completed the installation of all 80 foundations at the 640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan, marking a major milestone in the project.

Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd. (Yunneng) has announced a major achievement in the construction of the 640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (Yunlin OWF) in Taiwan. As of August 14, all 80 foundations, including monopiles and transition pieces, have been successfully installed. This milestone marks the completion of a critical phase in the project, which remains on track for full completion by the end of 2024.

With the foundation installation now complete, the project moves into its final phase. Of the 80 planned wind turbine generators (WTGs), 68 have been installed, and 52 are already operational, contributing clean electricity to the grid. Additionally, all 12 export cables and 56 inner array grids have been successfully positioned.

Patrick Lammers, CEO of Skyborn Renewables, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “Completing the foundation installation is a crucial step toward finalizing the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm. This accomplishment highlights our commitment to Taiwan’s clean energy future and reflects the successful collaboration with our partners and the support from the Taiwanese government.”

The Yunlin OWF is notable for its advanced localization efforts, including the installation of 40 locally produced monopiles and 40 transition pieces, thanks to partnerships with Taiwanese manufacturers Formosa Heavy Industries and CTCI Machinery. The project has also set new records in manufacturing efficiency and environmental stewardship, with a four-year “Black-faced Spoonbill Tracking Program” providing invaluable data on this endangered species and earning awards for sustainability.

Located in the Taiwan Strait, the Yunlin OWF will feature 80 wind turbines across an 82 km² area. Once operational, it will become Taiwan’s second-largest offshore wind farm, capable of supplying enough clean energy for over 600,000 households. The project is supported by a consortium of Taiwanese and international banks and export credit agencies.
