Next week, the public will have the opportunity to closely observe Taiwan’s military prowess during an “open house” event at Chiayi Air Force Base. Scheduled for August 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event is designed to foster greater transparency and engagement with Taiwan’s defense capabilities, CNA reported.
The highlight of the day will be a spectacular fly-over by five of Taiwan’s advanced F-16V fighter jets, marking the commencement of the event. The Air Force’s renowned Thunder Tiger Aerobatics Team and Indigenous Defense Fighters (IDFs) will also perform intricate aerial maneuvers, showcasing their expertise and precision.
Preparations for the event included rehearsals conducted on Tuesday, August 6. However, some maneuvers were called off due to unsafe weather conditions, ensuring the safety of participants and the public.
Attendees will have the chance to see a range of aircraft, including Black Hawk helicopters, Mirage 2000 fighter jets, and C-130 transport planes. Additionally, ground-based military equipment such as the Patriot missile defense system and M60 tanks will be on display, providing a comprehensive view of Taiwan’s defense arsenal.
The Chiayi Air Force Base is a strategic location for Taiwan’s military, housing several key units and advanced weaponry. This open house aims to enhance public understanding and support for Taiwan’s military efforts, particularly in the face of regional security challenges.
For those unable to attend this year’s event, the Air Force has announced that the next open house will take place in 2027, ensuring ongoing opportunities for public engagement and education.
This event underscores Taiwan’s commitment to transparency and national defense, offering a rare glimpse into the capabilities that safeguard the island.
