MediaTek, the prominent smartphone chip designer, has announced plans to introduce its next-generation chipset, the Dimensity 9400, in the fourth quarter of this year. The new chipset is strategically designed to enhance support for artificial intelligence (AI) applications, according to MediaTek CEO Rick Tsai. This announcement follows the success of the Dimensity 9300 chipset, unveiled in November 2022, which garnered positive feedback from clients.
During a ceremony marking the groundbreaking of a new office building near the Hsinchu High-Speed Rail station, Rick Tsai expressed MediaTek’s faith in the upcoming Dimensity 9400, anticipating it to surpass the performance of its predecessor and drive another sales pinnacle for the company. The launch aligns with the prevailing trend in the smartphone industry, where AI applications play an increasingly integral role in device capabilities.
The construction of the new office building serves as a testament to MediaTek’s commitment to Taiwan’s IC design industry and reflects the company’s confidence in the nation’s technology development. The building, scheduled for completion in 2027, will comprise 12 floors above ground and five floors underground, providing space for 3,000 personnel. MediaTek Chairman Tsai Ming-kai emphasized the importance of investments in research and development and talent cultivation for Taiwan’s semiconductor industry.
Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan, attending the groundbreaking ceremony, reiterated the government’s full support for the local IC design industry. He highlighted the Taiwan Chip-based Industrial Innovation Program, a five-year initiative aimed at increasing Taiwan’s IC design industry output from 20% to 40% of the global total within a decade. Cheng praised MediaTek’s new office building as a positive indicator of investment sentiment in Taiwan, recognizing its potential as a prominent research and development hub.
MediaTek, currently ranked as the fifth-largest IC designer globally, continues to play a leading role in the local IC industry. The company’s focus on innovation and the development of advanced chipsets underscores its commitment to driving technological advancements and contributing to Taiwan’s position in the global semiconductor landscape.
