Celebration of Shinzo Abe award in Taipei

Dr. Chen, the founding chair of the Friends of Shinzo Abe Association and a former lawmaker, was recognised for his exemplary leadership and significant contributions to enhancing relations between Taiwan and Japan.

A banquet was held on September 20 in Taipei, organised by the Friends of Shinzo Abe Association, to honour Dr. Mark Chen as the recipient of this year’s Shinzo Abe Award. Established by the Boston Global Forum (BGF), the award commemorates the contributions of the former Japanese Prime Minister to global peace and democracy.

Dr. Chen, the founding chair of the Friends of Shinzo Abe Association and a former lawmaker, was recognised for his exemplary leadership and significant contributions to enhancing relations between Taiwan and Japan. His advocacy for Taiwan’s sovereignty and promotion of democratic values align closely with Shinzo Abe’s vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The BGF highlighted his long-standing commitment to human rights as a cornerstone of his public service.

The banquet also marked a significant moment in honouring Abe’s legacy, with a “70th Memorial Event” celebrating what would have been his 70th birthday. Guests were presented with a Chinese translation of Abe’s memoirs, the first of its kind to be published, furthering the connection between the two nations.

The annual award not only pays tribute to Abe’s impact but also serves as a platform to celebrate leaders dedicated to strengthening democratic ideals and protecting human rights across Asia and beyond. By recognising individuals like Dr. Chen, the Friends of Shinzo Abe Association underscores the importance of collaboration and shared values in fostering stability and peace in the region. As the event concluded, attendees expressed a renewed commitment to the principles championed by Abe, reaffirming the enduring relevance of his vision in today’s geopolitical landscape.
