The newly appointed interim leader of the ruling party has unveiled the members of an emergency leadership committee tasked with aiding incoming lawmakers as they prepare for the commencement of the new parliament.
Hwang Woo-yea, former deputy prime minister who now serves as the interim leader, disclosed the names of the committee members on Sunday. Among them are People Power Party representatives Yoo Sang-bum, Jun Joo-hyae, Eom Tae-young, and Kim Yong-tae, all recently elected in the latest parliamentary elections.
Additionally, Rep. Jeong Jeom-sig, who was re-elected to serve in the incoming parliament, has been appointed as the new chairman of the party’s policy committee, effectively placing Hwang in the leadership committee.
Hwang’s announcement concludes the nomination process for the emergency leadership committee, with plans to appoint “around 7 to 9 people,” as stated by Hwang last week. Previously, the party elected Rep. Choo Kyung-ho as its new floor leader, adding him to the committee.
Most of the nominees are reportedly aligned with President Yoon and are expected to attend a dinner with him on Monday.
Explaining the reduction in the number of committee members from 11 to accommodate swift preparations for the upcoming national convention, party spokesperson Yoon Hee-Seok emphasized the need for agility in readiness for the convention, projected to occur next month or in July. The committee’s official launch awaits formal approval of its members at a national committee meeting scheduled for Monday.
