The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Kim Yo Jong, has warned that the US nuclear submarine that was recently sent to South Korea is not welcome on the Korean Peninsula and has sent a strong message against it. Her comments, which were picked up by the news agency KCNA, highlight Pyongyang’s mounting worries about what it sees as an increased threat from the US.

She denounced the United States, stating that it is getting more and more extreme for the US to constantly acquire strategic nuclear assets, boast about its power, escalate its threat to the opposition, and “enjoy” its hegemonic privilege at all costs by using its malevolent strength. Kim Yo Jong underlined that the US’s strategic asset deployment in the area only serves to heighten hostilities and shows what she called an overreach of US power.

Kim Yo Jong stated that the Korean Peninsula will never be the final resting place for US strategic assets, sending a clear message to Washington and Seoul. We will not stop announcing that there is no security at any of South Korea’s military installations or ports.

The warning from Kim Yo Jong coincides with increased tensions on the Korean Peninsula as the US and South Korea deepen their military cooperation through cooperative exercises and defense accords. Large-scale joint military drills were held by the two allies, which North Korea has continuously denounced as provocations and invasion drills.

She went on to dispute claims made by the US that it is a guarantor of regional security, stating that it is in no way a “pronoun of security.” Her words raise concerns about escalating tensions in the area as they represent a clear message from Pyongyang that US military presence on the Korean Peninsula will not be tolerated.
