North Korea convened crucial Cabinet and provincial committee meetings from Friday to Sunday, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Monday. The gatherings aimed to evaluate policy performances in the first half of the year and strategies for achieving significant goals in the remaining months of 2024. This series of meetings followed the recent plenary session of the Workers’ Party of Korea, where leader Kim Jong-un expressed satisfaction with the nation’s economic progress, asserting marked improvements in the economic situation.
The meetings included key figures such as Premier Kim Tok-hun and Vice Premier Pak Jong-gun, who attended Sunday’s Party Committee of the Cabinet’s plenary meeting. During these sessions, supplementary decisions were adopted to ensure the unwavering implementation of the policy tasks designated to the Cabinet and national economic guidance agencies.
The emphasis on enhancing party officials’ work attitudes was a focal point, reflecting concerns raised during the recent plenary meeting. Kim Jong-un’s dissatisfaction with the conduct of senior officials was notably underscored during his inspection of a major development project in Samjiyon, a city near Mount Paektu. The North Korean leader criticised the officials’ irresponsibility, attributing financial losses to their negligence.
These latest developments underscore North Korea’s commitment to improving economic conditions and enforcing stringent measures to bolster the performance and accountability of its officials. The strategic decisions taken during these meetings are indicative of the country’s broader objectives to fortify its economic stability and address internal administrative challenges.
