Renowned violinist Taro Hakase disclosed on September 6th that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that causes facial nerve paralysis. Hakase, 56, who has been married to Mayuko Takada for 25 years, first noticed unusual symptoms in August. He experienced discomfort in his left eye, initially suspecting it might be an eyelash or stye. Later that day, while working, he observed that the left side of his face had become immobile.
Following these troubling signs, Hakase sought medical attention and underwent an MRI. Although his brain showed no abnormalities, his symptoms worsened, leading to a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt syndrome. He noted that his symptoms were similar to those previously reported by global music icon Justin Bieber.
Despite the diagnosis, Hakase has decided to proceed with his scheduled “Taro Hakase Concert Tour 2024 TARO HAKASE & THE LADS VIBRANT.” He expressed considerable concern over whether to cancel the tour but ultimately concluded that the concerts are central to his life and professional identity. Hakase admitted that while he is not fully recovered and continues to experience disruptions in his daily life, recent rehearsals have been smooth and even more exhilarating than usual.
Hakase acknowledged that he might struggle with speaking during the concerts but is committed to delivering an engaging performance. He reassured fans that he will strive to make the concerts as enjoyable as ever and invited them to experience what he promises will be a memorable performance.
