On the afternoon of September 8, 2024, Ryota Haga, a promising young Superbike racer, tragically lost his life at the age of 21. The incident occurred during the 6th round of the All Japan Road Race Championship Series Superbike Race ST600 class, held at Autopolis in Hita City, Oita. According to the Japan Motorcycle Federation (MFJ) and the Association of Road Racing Teams (ART), Haga’s motorcycle stalled immediately after the start, leading to a rear-end collision.
ART detailed that Haga was airlifted to a hospital in Fukuoka Prefecture following the accident. Despite intensive treatment efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 5:15 p.m. that same day. The MFJ, through Chairman Tetsuo Suzuki, expressed deep sorrow, recalling Haga’s remarkable presence on the track and extending heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and supporters.
The news of Haga’s death was first shared by his 22-year-old brother, Akito, on social media platforms. Akito posted on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram Stories, announcing that Ryota had passed away and noting the time of his death.
A wake for Ryota Haga is scheduled for September 11, with the funeral and farewell ceremony to follow on September 12. The Haga family, including his father Noriyuki Haga, a renowned figure in road racing and World Superbike Championships, invites those who wish to pay their respects.
