Asian markets: Nikkei index slips 0.90%, marking a sluggish start to the trading day

The trading day began with the index opening at 39,550.25 JPY, briefly peaking at 39,591.46 JPY before dipping to 39,166.05 JPY. Over a one-day period, the index registered a 0.97% decline, continuing its downward trajectory over five days with a cumulative loss of 1.81%.

On a monthly scale, the Nikkei index has seen a minor slip of 0.35%, while its performance over six months reflects a more pronounced decline of 5.87%. Despite the recent downturns, the index has shown a robust annual growth of 12.48%.
