Asian markets: Nikkei closes down at 0.07%

The Nikkei 225 index closed at 39,931.76 JPY on 24th January, marking a decline of 26.89 points or 0.07% compared to its previous close of 39,958.65 JPY. The trading session, which concluded at 12:15 PM (GMT+5:30), saw the index oscillate within the range of 39,806.69 JPY to 40,279.79 JPY.

Despite the minor decline during the session, the index has shown resilience in the broader picture. Over the past five days, the Nikkei has gained 3.26%, while its one-month growth stands at 1.95%. A six-month period reflects a stronger 5.66% rise, and the one-year gain amounts to a notable 10.27%.

However, the year-to-date performance indicates a marginal drop of 0.03%. The Nikkei opened the session higher at 40,060.49 JPY but couldn’t sustain the momentum, slipping slightly as trading progressed.
