Xi Jinping praises China-Kenya collaboration under Belt and Road Initiative

Launched in 2013, the BRI is China’s ambitious global infrastructure and investment initiative aimed at enhancing trade and connectivity across Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the success of the partnership between China and Kenya under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), highlighting the tangible benefits that have emerged from the collaboration. Speaking during a recent meeting with Kenyan officials, Xi praised the deepening ties between the two nations, emphasizing the transformative impact of the BRI on Kenya’s infrastructure and economic development.

Launched in 2013, the BRI is China’s ambitious global infrastructure and investment initiative aimed at enhancing trade and connectivity across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Kenya has been a key participant in the initiative, benefiting from substantial Chinese investments in major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

During the meeting, Xi Jinping noted that the SGR, one of the most prominent BRI projects in Africa, has significantly improved Kenya’s transportation network, reducing travel time and costs while boosting trade and tourism. The railway has not only facilitated the efficient movement of goods and people within Kenya but also enhanced the country’s position as a regional trade hub.

Kenyan President William Ruto, who was part of the discussions, expressed his appreciation for China’s continued support and investment in Kenya’s infrastructure projects. Ruto highlighted the positive impact of the SGR on the country’s economy and the potential for future projects to further accelerate Kenya’s development. He also mentioned that the collaboration with China aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030 development plan, which aims to transform the country into a middle-income nation through infrastructure, industrialization, and modernization.
