Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a crucial symposium on May 20 to gather insights from non-CPC personages on the drafting of a significant CPC resolution. This resolution, aimed at further deepening comprehensive reforms to propel Chinese modernization, was adopted at the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, held from May 20 to May 23, was revealed on July 19.
The symposium saw the attendance of leaders from central committees of other political parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and independent figures. Xi emphasized that the session aimed to systematically plan and arrange for comprehensive reforms, thereby providing strong impetus and institutional guarantees for achieving the Second Centenary Goal: building China into a great modern socialist country.
Prominent members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, including Wang Huning, Cai Qi, and Ding Xuexiang, were present at the symposium. Non-CPC attendees offered their opinions and suggestions on stimulating economic vitality, reforming medical and healthcare systems, advancing high-standard opening up, and promoting integrated development across the Taiwan Strait.
Xi underscored the CPC’s tradition of extensively seeking opinions from various sectors when researching major issues and formulating important documents. He highlighted the necessity of addressing prominent problems hindering Chinese modernization by removing deep-seated institutional obstacles and structural issues, with a focus on economic structural reform.
Reforms should mobilize the enthusiasm, initiative, and creativity of the entire Party and nation, Xi stated, urging the pooling of wisdom to make reform decisions more rational and ensure their effective implementation. Xi concluded by emphasizing the importance of well-crafted plans and targeted policy enforcement, cautioning against losing sight of reality. This symposium marks a pivotal step in China’s ongoing journey toward comprehensive modernization and reform.
