Geely introduces an affordable Galaxy E8: A pure electric Sedan to challenge BYD and foreign brands

Geely Auto Group has unveiled its latest offering, the Galaxy E8, marking the first all-electric sedan in the Galaxy product lineup. Launched at the company’s headquarters in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, the E8 boasts powerful specifications coupled with an affordable price tag, intensifying competition in China’s electric vehicle (EV) market.

The Galaxy E8 is a significant addition to Geely Auto’s product array, leveraging Geely Holding Group’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). It is the third model introduced under the Galaxy lineup, officially launched by Geely Auto on February 23, 2023. This product array is strategically designed to target mainstream plug-in hybrid and pure electric vehicle markets.

Geely Auto has ambitious plans for the Galaxy lineup, aiming to launch a cumulative total of seven models by 2025. This includes four plug-in hybrid models in the L-series and three pure electric models in the E-series. The Galaxy L6 SUV and the Galaxy L6 sedan, both hybrids, were introduced to the market.

The hybrid Galaxy L7 SUV and Galaxy L6 sedan were introduced to the market in 2023.

With the Galaxy E8, Geely Auto hopes to target the widest market of potential users, which is by far the most competitive in the EV segment. The absence of high-value pure EVs in the mainstream market with a broad user base prompted Geely Auto to fill this gap with the Galaxy E8, according to CEO Jerry Gan.

The Galaxy E8, positioned as a mid-to-large-size electric sedan, boasts dimensions of 5,010 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,465 mm in height. It features a wheelbase of 2,925 mm, emphasizing a spacious and comfortable interior. Geely Auto emphasizes that the E8 brings oriental aesthetics, safety, powerful performance, and intelligence to the mainstream market, positioning itself as a high-value, all-electric flagship model.

Geely Auto’s foray into the electric sedan market with the Galaxy E8 signals its commitment to offering diverse and competitive EV options in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape in China.
