Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to participate in the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and embark on official visits to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. As a key member of the SCO, China plays an active role in promoting regional stability, security, and economic development. Minister Wang’s attendance at the SCO Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting reflects China’s dedication to strengthening cooperation within the organization and advancing mutual interests among member states.

The SCO serves as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration among its member states, which include China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan. Through initiatives aimed at enhancing security, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange, the organization contributes to fostering peace and prosperity in the region. During the SCO meeting, Minister Wang is expected to engage in discussions on a wide range of regional and international issues, including counterterrorism, regional security, and economic cooperation. These discussions provide an opportunity for SCO member states to exchange views, coordinate policies, and strengthen mutual trust and understanding.

In addition to attending the SCO meeting, Minister Wang will undertake official visits to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, two important partners in China’s diplomatic relations and regional cooperation efforts. Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are both key partners in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global infrastructure and connectivity project aimed at promoting economic integration and sustainable development across Eurasia and beyond. Minister Wang’s visits provide an opportunity to discuss the progress of BRI projects and explore opportunities for further cooperation.

In Kazakhstan, Minister Wang is expected to meet with senior government officials to discuss bilateral cooperation in various fields, including energy, transportation, and people-to-people exchanges. Kazakhstan is a significant partner for China in the areas of energy cooperation, with projects such as the China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline contributing to bilateral economic ties. Similarly, in Tajikistan, Minister Wang’s visit will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation and advancing joint initiatives in areas such as infrastructure development, water resources management, and security cooperation. Tajikistan’s strategic location and natural resources make it an important partner for China in regional development initiatives.
