Li Hui, the Chinese government’s special representative on Eurasian affairs, is set to visit Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia starting July 28, as part of the fourth round of shuttle diplomacy addressing the Ukraine crisis. This information was revealed by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning during a daily press briefing on Friday.

The purpose of Li’s visit is to engage in discussions with key members of the Global South regarding the current situation and peace talks related to the Ukraine crisis. The Chinese delegation aims to explore methods to de-escalate tensions and create favorable conditions for resuming peace negotiations, according to Mao.

Nearly two and a half years have passed since the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict, with the war continuing and peace talks remaining uncertain. Mao highlighted the ongoing risk of further escalation and spillover effects from the conflict.

China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has consistently advocated for a political solution to the crisis. Mao emphasized China’s commitment to this cause, stating that the country has always strived to promote peaceful resolutions.

During the upcoming visits, Li Hui is expected to exchange views with officials from Brazil, South Africa, and Indonesia, focusing on the progression of peace talks and strategies to alleviate the conflict. This initiative underscores China’s ongoing efforts to engage with international partners and contribute to the stabilization of the situation in Ukraine.
