China to facilitate dialogue between Palestinian factions

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Tuesday its readiness to provide a platform for Palestinian factions to engage in dialogue aimed at reconciliation.

In a significant diplomatic move, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on Tuesday its readiness to provide a platform for Palestinian factions to engage in dialogue aimed at reconciliation. Lin Jian, the MOFA spokesperson, emphasized China’s longstanding support for unity among Palestinian factions through dialogue and consultation.

This initiative responds to reports that senior officials from the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will convene in Beijing over the upcoming weekend. This meeting follows previous talks held in April, where both factions engaged in an in-depth and candid dialogue to promote reconciliation.

“China has always supported reconciliation and unity among Palestinian factions through dialogue and consultations,” stated Lin. The spokesperson added that China, in collaboration with relevant Palestinian parties, is committed to strengthening communication and coordination to achieve intra-Palestinian reconciliation.

The April talks, facilitated by Beijing, saw both Fatah and Hamas express their political will to realize reconciliation through dialogue. The discussions covered many specific issues and resulted in encouraging progress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the clear demonstration of political commitment and mutual appreciation for China’s steadfast support in restoring the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people from both sides.

While specific details of the upcoming meeting remain undisclosed, Lin assured that China would release relevant information in due course. This initiative underscores China’s active role in Middle Eastern diplomacy, striving to foster peace and stability in the region.

The forthcoming dialogue in Beijing is anticipated to further the progress made in April, with hopes pinned on achieving lasting reconciliation and unity among Palestinian factions.
