On Friday, two German warships transited the Taiwan Strait, prompting a stern response from China’s Ministry of National Defense. Wu Qian, the defence spokesperson, voiced strong opposition to what China perceives as provocative actions under the guise of “freedom of navigation.”
Wu Qian addressed the situation on Saturday, commenting that the presence of the German warships in the Taiwan Strait was an unnecessary provocation and an affront to China’s sovereignty. He emphasised that freedom of navigation should not be misconstrued as a right to trespass or to undermine China’s territorial integrity. The People’s Liberation Army Eastern Theater Command’s naval and air force units monitored the German vessels throughout their passage. Wu stressed that the Chinese military is on high alert and committed to defending the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored that China would take all necessary measures to ensure peace and stability in the region, asserting that such international movements should not be allowed to compromise China’s security.
