Beijing to host 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)

The summit’s theme is, “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”

The 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is set to take place in Beijing from September 4 to 6, according to an announcement by Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Tuesday. The summit’s theme, “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,” underscores the commitment to collaborative development between China and Africa.

Hua Chunying conveyed that leaders from the African member countries of FOCAC will be participating in the summit. These leaders have been invited by the forum to discuss and enhance cooperative efforts aimed at modernization and strengthening ties between the regions.

The summit is expected to attract representatives from various relevant African regional organizations and international entities. These representatives will participate in forum events, contributing to the discussions on advancing the shared goals of modernization and building a stronger community between China and Africa.

FOCAC, the official forum for dialogue and cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and African states, excludes only the Kingdom of Eswatini. Since its inception, FOCAC has served as the primary multilateral coordination mechanism, facilitating collaboration on numerous initiatives. In recent years, particularly since 2018, FOCAC has been regarded as a key platform within the Belt and Road Initiative, reflecting the deepening ties and strategic partnership between China and Africa.

This upcoming summit in Beijing is anticipated to further solidify the cooperation framework, offering a platform for African and Chinese leaders to explore new avenues for mutual growth and development. The event will likely highlight the shared vision for a future characterized by increased modernization and strengthened bilateral relations.
