Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar launches Palatuni dam construction in Paktia

The ceremony, held in the heart of Paktia, was attended by key officials, local leaders, and community members.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, inaugurated the construction of the Palatuni dam in southeastern Paktia province on Monday. In his address, Mullah Baradar reiterated the commitment of the government to infrastructure development as a cornerstone of national progress. He assured the audience that the project would be executed with transparency and efficiency, aiming to complete it within the stipulated timeline.

The ceremony, held in the heart of Paktia, was attended by key officials, local leaders, and community members. Mullah Baradar highlighted the dam’s anticipated impact on both local agriculture and regional stability. He emphasized that the dam would not only address the long-standing issue of water scarcity but also provide a reliable irrigation system for the province’s farmlands, thus supporting economic growth and improving livelihoods.

The Palatuni dam, once completed, is expected to have a substantial effect on the agricultural sector by ensuring a consistent water supply throughout the year. This is particularly crucial for Paktia, where agricultural productivity has been hampered by irregular water availability. The dam is also projected to contribute to local employment opportunities during and after its construction, further stimulating economic activity in the area.

The construction of the Palatuni Dam is seen as a strategic initiative to strengthen regional resilience and foster sustainable development. It represents a broader vision for infrastructure projects that seek to address essential needs and promote long-term economic stability across Afghanistan
