Xi Jinping calls for reform and innovation during Gansu inspection

Xi’s visit aimed to reinforce Gansu’s role in China’s modernisation drive.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasised the need for reform, innovation, and ecological conservation during his visit to Gansu Province from Tuesday to Friday. The inspection tour covered cultural heritage sites, local industries, and infrastructure projects in Tianshui, Lanzhou, and other key locations in northwest China.

Xi’s visit aimed to reinforce Gansu’s role in China’s modernisation drive. He called on local authorities to deepen reform, accelerate green development, and prioritise the well-being of residents. Xi underscored that these efforts would help the province contribute to the broader national agenda.

During his tour of the Fuxi Temple in Tianshui on Tuesday, Xi focused on cultural heritage preservation, stressing the importance of protecting historical sites to inspire future generations. On Wednesday, he reviewed a local water diversion project, urging improved management to enhance its impact on residents’ lives. He also visited a Huaniu apple production base, where he highlighted the need to optimise cultivation techniques and explore new marketing strategies to boost local incomes.

At the Maijishan Grottoes, Xi examined ancient sculptures and paintings and encouraged cultural workers to strengthen the preservation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture. While meeting residents in Lanzhou, he stressed the importance of community services, especially for the elderly and children, and expressed his desire for continued improvements in local support systems.

Xi concluded his visit by emphasising Gansu’s potential as a significant base for new energy and manufacturing industries. He called for a deeper commitment to reform, expanded opening-up, and a people-centred urbanisation strategy. Xi’s remarks set a clear direction for Gansu’s development, urging the province to take bold steps toward achieving sustainable prosperity and national unity.
