Union Minister of Minority Affairs signs bilateral agreement with KSA’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah

Union Minister of Minority Affairs visits the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to finalize a bilateral agreement with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, fostering cooperation between the two nations in pilgrimage affairs.

An inter-ministerial delegation, led by the Minister of Minority Affairs, recently embarked on a significant visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to finalize a bilateral agreement with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah. The agreement solidifies arrangements for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage, allocating a total quota of 175,025 pilgrims from India for Haj 2024. Notably, 140,020 seats are reserved for pilgrims through the Haj Committee of India, benefitting first-time pilgrims, while 35,005 seats are designated for pilgrims through Haj Group Organisers.

During the bilateral discussions with the Minister of Hajj and Umrah, KSA, the Indian delegation highlighted the government’s digital initiatives aimed at enhancing the convenience and ease of Indian Haj pilgrims. KSA expressed appreciation for these efforts and offered to extend support. The delegation also discussed India’s initiative to encourage participation under the Ladies without Mehram (LWM) category, receiving praise and recognition.

In their efforts to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience, the delegation visited the Haj Terminal in Jeddah to assess logistical arrangements and explore measures to enhance convenience for Indian pilgrims. They also visited significant religious sites in Madinah, including the Prophet’s Mosque, the mountain of Uhud, and the Quba Mosque, gaining insights into accommodation arrangements and interacting with Indian volunteers and Umrah pilgrims.

Discussions were held on digital initiatives for seamless service delivery and the enhancement of medical facilities for pilgrims.

Attending the inaugural session of the Hajj and Umrah Conference and Exhibition in Jeddah, the delegation participated in various sessions, workshops, and seminars, engaging with global decision-makers and experts in the Haj and Umrah sector. The conference provided valuable insights into global best practices and facilitated the exchange of ideas to enhance the Haj experience for Indian pilgrims.

Additionally, a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region explored opportunities for further cooperation to improve facilities and services for Indian pilgrims during the Haj pilgrimage in Makkah.

The visit underscored the warm and cordial relations between India and KSA, with special appreciation extended to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, KSA, for facilitating the delegation’s visit to Madinah. This collaboration is expected to enhance services for Haj pilgrims and strengthen people-to-people contact between the two nations.

The Government of India reaffirmed its commitment to providing better facilities and services to Indian Muslims undertaking the Haj pilgrimage, ensuring a comfortable and fulfilling experience. Minister of Minority Affairs, Shrimati Smriti Zubin Irani, shared these insights in a written reply in Lok Sabha, emphasizing the government’s dedication to the welfare of pilgrims.
