Samajwadi Party leader and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav criticised BJP government’s agriculture bills on Friday by calling them ‘anti-farmer’ and a ‘conspiracy against farmers’.

Samajwadi Party leader and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav criticised BJP government’s agriculture bills on Friday by calling them ‘anti-farmer’ and a ‘conspiracy against farmers’. He tweeted that these laws will make farmers mortgage their land to the rich, rendering them labourers on their own land.

He said that this is a conspiracy to end the markets that provide farmers with the safety net of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and to take the price of the produce away from farmers.

Farmers in Punjab and Haryana have been protesting against the agriculture ordinances passed by the Union Cabinet for the past weeks. Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill were passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. These Bills will now be tabled in the Rajya Sabha.
