With the IPL 2026 mini-auction drawing closer, fans were left stunned after Glenn Maxwell’s name was missing from the list of 1,355 registered players. The all-rounder has now officially confirmed that he will not be part of the auction — but has clarified that it is not a retirement from the league.

Maxwell released a statement on Tuesday, saying he has decided not to put his name into the IPL auction this year, calling it a “big call” made with gratitude for what the league has given him. The Australian star emphasised that the IPL has shaped him “as a cricketer and as a person,” allowing him to play for world-class franchises and in front of passionate Indian crowds. He thanked fans for their years of support and ended the note with — “hopefully see you soon,” signalling that the door remains open for a future return.

His absence comes amid one of the most competitive auction pools ever, featuring 1,355 players from 14 countries, including 43 overseas names in the ₹2 crore base-price category.

The top foreign names in the ₹2 crore bracket include Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Matthew Short, Josh Inglis, Jonny Bairstow, Rachin Ravindra, Jamie Smith, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, and Alzarri Joseph. The bowling group features Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Gerald Coetzee, Mustafizur Rahman, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lungi Ngidi and more. Inglis, however, may miss a major part of the season due to his wedding.

Among Indian players, several notable domestic stars have registered, including Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, Navdeep Saini, Akash Deep, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Sen, Rahul Tripathi and Umesh Yadav.

While Glenn Maxwell won’t feature in IPL 2026, his statement strongly indicates that this is not a farewell, but a temporary break — leaving fans hopeful of seeing “Maxi” back in the league again someday.
