Despite falling short in a thrilling chase in Ranchi, South Africa created a unique ODI record on Sunday. The visitors became the first team in men’s ODI history to cross the 300-run mark in a run-chase after losing their first three wickets for under 15 runs.
South Africa were rocked early at 6/3, but an incredible fightback led by Corbin Bosch and Marco Jansen kept them alive in the contest until the final over. They eventually finished on 332 in 49.2 overs, falling 17 runs short of India’s 349/8.
The previous highest total in such a situation was Pakistan’s 297 all out after being 6/3 against England at Headingley during the 2019 World Cup.
India went 1-0 up in the three-match series, with Virat Kohli named Player of the Match for his hundred.
