The Supreme Court is set to hear Vodafone Idea’s plea in the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues case today, October 13, as the debt-laden telecom company challenges the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) additional demand of ₹5,606 crore for FY2016–17.

Although the exact timing of Supreme Court hearings is subject to the day’s cause list and case sequence, the matter is expected to come up around 11:30 AM, depending on when the bench takes up related cases. Vodafone Idea’s plea has been listed for hearing before a bench led by Justice B.R. Gavai.

The case has already seen multiple adjournments — first on September 26 and again on October 6, when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, sought additional time to respond.

In its petition, Vodafone Idea, promoted by the Aditya Birla Group, has urged the top court to quash the additional AGR demand and direct the DoT to carry out a comprehensive reconciliation of all dues up to FY2016–17, as per the Deduction Verification Guidelines issued on February 3, 2020.

As of March 2025, Vodafone Idea’s total AGR-related liabilities stood at ₹83,400 crore, forming a major component of its overall debt of nearly ₹1.99 lakh crore.

The outcome of today’s hearing is expected to be crucial for the company’s financial roadmap, given its continued struggle to raise capital and expand network investments amid competitive industry pressures.
