Former Dancing With the Stars host Samantha Harris has shared an update on her journey toward recovery after being diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time in August 2024.
At 51, Harris maintains a positive outlook, recently telling People that she considers herself “cancer-free” despite her diagnosis. She emphasized that she is feeling “great” and is focusing on keeping her body from becoming a host for any circulating tumor cells.
Her second diagnosis came as an unexpected setback nearly a decade after she was first diagnosed in 2014. In an emotional video last year, she had revealed that the recurrence was in the exact location of her initial tumor. However, she reassured her followers that the cancer had been detected early.
During her recovery, Harris faced a scare in November when she pushed herself too hard following surgery. Eager to regain her strength, she took long walks on consecutive days, believing she was maintaining a slow pace. However, the exertion caused inflammation at the surgery site, leading to fears of complications such as infection or implant rejection. Reflecting on the experience, she admitted the emotional toll it took on her.
As she continues healing, Harris finds strength in her family. Her husband, Michael Hess, and their daughters, Josselyn, 17, and Hillary, 14, have been a source of comfort, helping her adjust to a new normal. She hopes that, in time, this chapter in her life will be nothing more than a minor memory for her children.
