Fans of the popular spooky German drama Dark will like the new Netflix series 1899, which focuses on the search for missing children in a tiny town with a dark past.
1899 is a multilingual series produced by the team behind Dark in which the characters will talk in the language of their origin. Although the eight-part drama takes place in 1899, the same year as Dark, it takes place aboard a migrant steamer sailing from London to New York, carrying a diverse group of European passengers. However this time, all the performers are speaking in their original tongues, and creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are creating something distinctive and novel as usual. Although communication between the individuals may be difficult, they do share the same experience: their dreams of the promised land of America gradually transform into terrifying nightmares.
Moreover 1899 showrunners Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar said: “What really made us connect to this idea was the concept of having a truly European show with a mixed cast from different countries. At its heart is the question of what unites us and what divides us. And how fear can be a trigger for the latter.”
